Story by Benard Karigo: Digital and social marketing assistant TATA Chemicals Magadi.

I was employed to market the social amenities in Magadi such as the schools, the sports club and the newly created tented camp. When you are employed by TATA chemicals, you are supposed to go through an induction process that takes you through the process of soda ash manufacturing and mining. This involves visiting the dredges in the Lake that mine the soda ash, going to Kajiado deport via train to experience the train transportation and even going to Mombasa port where the product is shipped to Asian countries and other destinations.

Being the first time on a train trolley to Kajiado from Magadi, I was so amazed and very excited about the adventure as we saw a lot of giraffes and ostriches along the rail. After the induction process, I decided to negotiate with the rail team and company management to allow me use the train trolley for tourists at least once in a week as its unique and would different from other safaris. The management was at first hesitant on the idea but after lengthy negotiations, I was allowed to give it a try: WE WERE THEN FULLY BOOKED FOR 2 MONTHS CONSECUTIVELY!! The train trolley was however a very small cabin that would only take about 20 persons squeezed inside and was very noisy.

Currently, we are using the main train locomotive (coach) that can take upto 70 people. SEE PHOTOS OF THE TRAIN TROLLEY ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE & CURRENT TRAIN SAFARI ON YOUTUBE.
